The Bakery

A little bakery that punches well above its weight.

Tucked into the Lyttelton Bakery on Norwich Quay, Glamour Cake is Bree Scott's answer to the ordinary. The doughnuts that made the place famous, the kind Stuff wrote about with queues forming from half seven in the morning, sit alongside cheesecakes, slices and proper pies in a cabinet that makes choosing genuinely difficult.

Everything is made by hand on site. It is a touch dearer than your average bakery, and every review that mentions it says the same thing in the next breath: you are paying for genuine quality. Baked art, as one regular put it.

What we bake

Four cabinets' worth of temptation

Sweet or savoury, there is no wrong answer. Here is what tends to disappear fastest.

Gourmet doughnuts

Gourmet doughnuts

The reason people drive in from an hour away. Cream-filled, hand-piped and finished by hand, from Biscoff to Snickers cheesecake that oozes chocolate when you cut it.

Cakes & cheesecakes

Cakes & cheesecakes

Generous, properly layered slices and whole celebration cakes. Carrot, lemon meringue, Biscoff cheesecake and more, made to order for the days that matter.

Slices & cookies

Slices & cookies

The cabinet classics done glamorously: Neapolitan custard slice, toasted-meringue chocolate caramel slice, lolly cake and Lotus cream cookies.

Proper pies & savoury

Proper pies & savoury

Not an afterthought. Steak, bacon and cheese or mince and cheese with flaky pastry and serious filling, plus filled rolls, sandwiches and wraps.

Your biggest problem is going to be deciding what to have. The steak, bacon and cheese pie was everything I'd hoped for, and the Snickers cheesecake doughnut oozed chocolate when I cut into it. You're paying for genuine quality. Baked art.

The only problem is we can't get these treats more often. Living an hour from Lyttelton, we only get to enjoy them once or twice a year. The doughnuts are so good, so worth the drive.

Eye candy for the sweet tooth. The savoury selection is good, very nice pies, generous cakes, and the doughnuts are bloody awesome. All the staff are top-notch. Highly recommended, you will not be disappointed.

Easy to find on the main street of Lyttelton with lots of street parking. Congrats on the five years in business. The mince and cheese pie had flaky pastry, lots of filling and a generous amount of cheese, at the perfect eating temperature.

A note from the builder

Like it? It is yours.

I am Si from ProperSites. I build a real, working site for a business before I ever pitch it, so what you are looking at is the actual thing, made for Glamour Cake, not a template with your name dropped in or a quote for something that does not exist yet.

The site is yours to keep. It is was $997 $697 to make it live on your own domain, then $49 a month just keeps it hosted and looked after. Month to month, never a lock-in, and if you ever leave you take the site with you. Most builders are the opposite: stop paying and your site disappears. Not here.
